Dive into adventure

MEETING DAY: Arrive in Eugene. Eugene is a very cool, bicycle friendly city with plenty to see. Arrive early if you can and go for a bike ride, or just browse around Eugene. We will provide a listing of accommodations near our departure point. We will also provide contact info for bike shops to which you can ship your bike, if you prefer not to fly with it. We will meet at 7:00 pm for a brief orientation.

Oregon Coast BicyclingDAY 1: After a delicious breakfast we depart Eugene along the banks of the Willamette River. Today we ride 75 miles. We will pass fruit stands and orchards of plums and apples as we head North through the fertile Willamette Valley. We will find a nice shady spot for a second breakfast. Lunch will be at one of the local eateries in downtown Corvallis. Following a filling lunch we’ll head to Monmouth and then on to Dallas. Tonight we’ll be staying in the Best Western in Dallas. Dinner will be at a fine local restaurant. If you're looking for some night time excitement, try Dallas’s historical movie theater.

DAY 2: After breakfast we leave Dallas for the Coast. Today’s mileage will be 49 miles. We will take our time as we gradually climb up and over the Coast Range to the sleepy seaside town of Neskowin. We will be staying in an inn on the beach.

DAY 3: This will be our first full day on the Coast. Today’s ride will be 48 miles. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and snap some photos. You will have your own map, and are free to go at your own pace: Take a break at Depoe Bay. See the seals at Yaquina Head. Take a short hike on one of peninsula’s trails. Visit the lighthouse at Cape Foul Weather (don’t let the name alarm you!). Watch the surf churn in the Devil’s Punchbowl. We will be staying in ocean front lodging in Newport.  We will dine in a fine local restaurant.

Oregon CoastDAY 4: After a hearty breakfast, we get on the road. Most of the ride will be right on the water, with spectacular views around every bend. Keep your walking shoes near the top of your stuff, as we will pass a couple of places with great short hikes. The ride along the cliffs of Cape Perpetua is dramatic. Today’s riding will be on rolling terrain except for the moderate climb along coastal cliffs around Heceta Head. We’ll be staying and dining in Florence.  Tonight we dine in one of Florence’s finer restaurants. Today we ride 52 miles.

DAY 5: Today is a rest day. No need to pack up this morning. After breakfast you can choose from many different options for the day. Today will be unguided, though your guides can suggest cycling routes. Go canoeing on a nearby lake, hike along the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, visit the Florence Coast Guard Station, take a dip in the ocean, pull out that book you’ve been reading or go for a bike ride.  Tonight’s dinner is on your own.

DAY 6: Today we traverse the Coast Range on our return home. As we gradually climb over the mountains we will enjoy lunch at a historic covered bridge deep in the Coast Mountains. As we enter the Willamette Valley the sound of the ocean surf will be a fond memory. Today’s mileage is 68 miles.
